NOLA Chefs’ Aid for the Philippines
The folks in south Louisiana know what it is like to suffer. After eight years, parts of New Orleans are still recovering from Hurricane Katrina. Yet suffering helps all of us to keep focused on what is most important in life, and it urges us to reach out with a helping hand to others who suffer.
NOLA Chefs’ Aid for the Philippines brings together – in the great city of New Orleans – the love of good food and the love of family and community.
In response to the devastation wrought on the Philippines by Super Typhoon Haiyan (Yolanda), New Orleans area chefs are banding together for a night of food, fun, and philanthropy, with all proceeds going directly to the Philippines where it is most needed.
Mayor Mitch Landrieu, Chef Leah Chase, and James Carville are Honorary Co-Chairs for the event, with Chef Frank Brigsten, Chef Tenney Flynn, and Ralph Brennan heading up the Chefs Committee. Nearly 40 chefs will come together for the event, including Chef Tory McPhail of Commander’s Palace, Chef Matt Murphy of The Irish House, Chef Cory Bahr of Restaurant Cotton, and Kid Chef Eliana… and many more! Monday, December 16, – from 6:30 PM to 9:00 PM at the Hilton New Orleans Riverside – New Orleans chefs will cook up their version of traditional Filipino dishes like:
- Lechon Baboy
- Lechon Tacos
- Tokwa’t Baboy
- Ube Blini & Cornick-Crusted Chicken Adobo Sliders with Red Curry Coconut Creme Anglaise
- Halo Halo Panna Cotta with <unggo Gelee and Jackfruit Compote
- Savory Dinuguan with Mini Puto and Sweet Banana Lumpia, Jackfruit, and Caramelized Coconut Sauce
- And much, much more!
Partnering with American Culinary Federation New Orleans (ACFNO.org) and National Alliance for Filipino Concerns (NAFCONUSA.org), NOLA Chefs’ Aid for the Philippines will send funds raised by this event directly to the recovery efforts taking place in the Philippines where it is most needed. For years NAFCON has been actively involved in the Philippines with a network of local churches, non-governmental organizations, schools and health organizations. The network is named BALSA, and it ensures that 100% of all proceeds sent through NAFCON will reach some of the hardest hit areas of the Philippines, as soon as possible, and in an organized, transparent, and effective manner.
